The Laboratory for the Analysis of Societies and Powers in Africa – Diasporas (LASPAD) is pleased to invite you to a seminar on Terrorism in the Sahel: Local and Dynamic Factors, which will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, starting at 10 a.m.
The seminar will be led by Dr. Beatriz MEZA, Associate Professor at the International University of Rabat in Morocco (UIR) and a permanent researcher at the UIR Center for Global Studies. It will be moderated by Ndèye Khady DIOP, a doctoral student in political science at UGB, a research fellow, and a junior project manager at LASPAD.
The Sahel has become an epicenter of terrorism in Africa, with some regions recording more attacks in 2021 than in other parts of the world. This second seminar session on Terrorism and Political Violence in the Sahel will focus on the underlying causes of this trend by analyzing the region’s specific social, political, and economic context. We will also examine the local factors fueling violence and the dynamics that contribute to the perpetuation of terrorism in the region.
